Teaching violin to a 7 year old?
I'm not a violinist - I'm a pianist, but I think I can still field this one. The reason I became interested in playing piano is because I heard my grandmother playing Chopin's First Ballade when I was in elementary school. She always played for me as a kid, but nothing quite as virtuostic. Ever since then I've aspired to play that piece. Well, actually I can play it, but that's not the point. The point is is that when your student sees you playing something amazing, she'll find it very awesome and immediately become focused. She'll probably ask how to play as well as you can. You should respond with "If you do what I say and practice, you'll be playing like that in no time!!!" You'll find that she'll be more likely to keep her bow pressed to the stings because she's determined. You want her to play because it gives her a good feeling - not because she's afraid you'll exercise your authority over her.
