What is on top of the head of Michelangelo's David?

My art teacher said that there was a unfinished part on the top of David's head that he left there in order to remember the artiest who worked on it before he did. She then said that while it was being transported that someone took it upon themselves to fix that part. I looked everywhere to confirm it but i can't find anything. Does anyone know it this is true or not?
