Increase volume of sound comeing from headphone jack?

I have a headphone jack (3.5mm) that hooks up to my speakers. My mom wants to be able to play music from here Iphone. It works but the sound volume is very low (probably due to old wiring) and you can hardly hear it. Is a 3.5mm Amplifier what a need to have it louder or another device
