Can a gerbil live together with a rabbit?

my 5 month old rabbit just seems lonely. We bought him a new 2 story cage but he's running around the whole cage freaking out no one reason. He has also been stomping his back leg at me when I'm just watching him. Can I stick my gerbil in with my rabbit so they can become friends and keep each other company?
